USM WON SOLIDWORKS SKILLS COMPETITION 2019

Five students from School of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) participated in the SOLIDWORKS Skills Competition 2019 (Northern Region) on 19 August 2019. This competition was organized by IME Group of Companies and co-organized by UiTM Pulau Pinang, Permatang Pauh.

The aim of the competition is to bring young engineers from all around Malaysia to exchange tips and tricks on how to design faster with accuracy. The objectives of the competition are to create buzz and allow discovery of 3D modelling skills, to promote STEM skills among students as well as allowing students to brighten up their resume through the competition. The skill competition lasted a total of two hours, where students answered 9 questions of multiple criteria relating to part design, modelling, drawing and simulation.

Two of our students, Yew Jia Jing and Liew Shu Yan were announced to be the top ten finalist of the skill competition and were invited to the prize giving ceremony during the SOLIDWORKS Innovation Day 2020 at Equatorial Hotel, Penang on 1 October 2019.

During the ceremony, Liew Shu Yan was announced to be the Champion of the competition, walking away with a trophy and certificate, a cash prize of RM500, SOLIDWORKS Advanced Training voucher worth RM3200 and a SOLIDWORKS Professional Certificate Exam Voucher worth RM1800.

Yew Jia Jing also received a consolation prize of a certificate, SOLIDWORKS Advanced Training voucher worth RM3200 and a SOLIDWORKS Professional Certificate Exam Voucher worth RM1800.
