MBAKU-1

Congratulations to Abul Kasim S.M.J Dulkaman, final year student of School of Mineral and Resources, who recently won second place for the Mulakan Bisnes Anda (MBA) ICT Koridor Utara (MBAKU) 2010 award under Internet Marketing and Multimedia Category, on 20th November , 2010.

Mr Abul Kasim S.M.J Dulkaman, President of the Student Representative Council of Engineering Campus, had taken up the challenge to participate in the competition during the final examination. More than 50 local entrepreneurs and IPTA students who joined the workshop and competition had been vying for this award. Only two awards were offered for each category.

The Penang lad had come second for his marketing creativity showcased through ICT in promoting professional attire for chefs in the local and international market.

He reminisced about his experience when he first started his small business since he became a USM student, from selling sandwiches at the hostels to currently receiving orders for textile products from Brunei. He related the difficulties faced in juggling time for studies, being active at the university and for his business.
According to him, the demands for chef attire in Brunei are very encouraging and there is potential for international market. The material used for the clothing makes it in demand in the market because it is made of a special type of polymer for the comfort and appearance of the chefs. Profit gained from these textiles is estimated to be RM25 thousand since he initiated his part time venture. Other than textiles, he is involved in various investments, among them, gold, to support his business and to gain good returns in the long run.

He hopes that through the latest marketing method introduced, there will be a good potential to break into other markets, such as Europe, after completing his study.
The award ceremony was attended by The Chief Executive of Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Redza Rafiq, at Equitorial Hotel, Penang.
