USM CELEBRATES THE INDUSTRIES, STUDENTS

SEBERANG JAYA, 17th March 2016 – University Sains Malaysia (USM), last night organized a dinner with 65 industries involved in the Career Fair programme for the 10th year at the Light Hotel .

The event was graced with the presence of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Engineering Campus, Professor Dr. Ahmad farhan Mohd Sadullah and wife who celebrated the industries as they dine to a variety of dishes whilst being entertained by the students’ performances and lucky draw.

Ahmad farhan said, the programme was a flag ship and is the pride of Engineering Campus particularly to the organising committee with the majority of them are students.

”through the career exhibition, graduates can obtain information involving various career sectors and target groups, and at the same time could develop their thinking skills through a more confident self esteem and positive personality”, he said.

”This is important especially when graduates need to be more prepared mentally and physically when they evolve from the academic world to a challenging career”, he added.

He also hopes that the Career Fair at the Engineering Campus will continously be beneficial to the USM engineering students in years ahead and provide knowledge and guidance concerning the career paths that needs to be taken by the graduates.

Gala Dinner DSC3738He explains, graduates need to make wise decisions for their future careers and contribute to the nation’s development.

Meanwhile, Project Manager, Teoh Cheng Lay said, the programme ran smoothly and was a success in achieving the set target as in getting the involvement of renowned companies and generated a higher income compared to the previous year.

”I am very grateful and proud with the achievement this year, even though there are certain aspects that need changes in providing a greater impact for the future”, said the third year student from the School of Mechanical Engineering.

”My aspiration, for the next generation to strive harder not only to organise projects or Career Fair programme but to keep upgrading the next programme as well as branding USM Career Fair and maintaning USM’s good reputation”, he said, who is better known as Adrian.

Those present in the celebration were 2011 ex-project managers, Hong Jia Herh, a graduate from the School of Chemical Engineering who is currently working as a component engineering with Jabil Circuits, Penang and Khoo Teng Lee, 2014 who is currently an engineer with Dyson Manufacturing/Technology in Johore.

Another former project manager present at the event was Chun Jan Bong who is a final year student from the School of Civil Engineering.

The total attendance for the two-day Career Fair reached 2500 people and almost 500 job opportunities were offerred by the participating companies this year.

Also present, Registrar, University Sains Malaysia, Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Tajuddin and a representative from SanDisk Storage Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., as the main sponsor for this year, the Senior Vice President, Gursharan Singh and Human Resource Director, Moorthy Murugiah.
