HOW YONG GUAN AWARDED WITH USM'S OUTSTANDING GRADUATE ENTERPRISE

One of our alumni from the 2012-2016 cohort, Mr How Yong Guan, has been awarded with the Outstanding Graduate Enterprise from Universiti Sains Malaysia. The award is given to graduates who operate profitable businesses with positive and outstanding impact. Yong Guan attended the USM's Majlis Persada Kencana event on 3 December 2018 to receive the award. The event was held annually to recognize outstanding leadership and entrepreneurship skills from USM students and graduates.

USM EMERGED CHAMPION AND FIRST RUNNER-UP IN BEYOND STRUCTURES COMPETITION 2018

Students from the School of Civil Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia have once again make the university proud for achieving outstanding results in Beyond Structures 2018: “Form and Function” Competition held at Universiti Tenaga Malaysia (UNITEN) on 20 October 2018. A total of 37 teams from 23 Malaysian and Singaporean universities participated in this biennial event. Out of 37 teams, 23 teams participated in the First Team Category and 14 teams participated in the Second Team Category. Both USM teams have bagged the First Runner-Up in the First Team Category and the Winner in the Second Team Category, and walked away with a cash prize of RM 2000 and plaques. This is the best ever results achieved by USM in this kind of competition.

USM TEAMS RANK 5TH AND 11TH PLACES AT IDEERS COMPETITION 2018

Two teams from the School of Civil Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia have achieved encouraging results in the “Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research for Schools (IDEERS) 2018” which was held on September 14 – 15 in Taipei, Taiwan. This international competition was held at the Taiwan National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE). This program is jointly organized by NCREE, National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs) and British Council (BC). Each team was required to construct a building model using the provided materials in 6.5 hours. All models were then tested for various levels of bi-directional earthquake ground motion (from 250 gal to 800 gal) simulated using a shaking table.
