USM HOSTS THE AEROSPACE FESTIVAL
NIBONG TEBAL, 23 November 2015 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) hosted the aerospace festival or the AEROFEST held for two days which was from 20 to 22 November 2015 held at the Engineering Campus.
The programme organized by the Aerospace Engineering Students Society (AEROSOC) with the cooperation of the School of Aerospace Engineering was attended by 150 students from aerospace, aeronautical and astronautics field from six public universities (UA) in Malaysia.
The universities involved in the AEROFEST this time are International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM) University Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL-MIAT) Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), University of Technology Malaysia (UTM), Tun Hussein Onn University Malaysia (UTHM) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) as the host.
According to the Deputy Dean (Academic) School of Aerospace Engineering, Dr. Ahmad Zulfaa Mohamed Kassim said the main aim of the programme is to unite and foster closer ties between the aerospace engineering students from all the public universities in Malaysia.
“I am confident that the students are able to share ideas, information and experiences from their own universities and to put the knowledge that they gained from the programme to practice”, he said while present to officiate the ceremony at the Students’ Center (PUMA), Division of Students Development Affairs & Alumni (HEPA), Engineering Campus, USM.
Meanwhile, Project Director, Tan Pheng Chuen said the festival has succeeded in achieving its set goals and objectives which is not only gaining glory but to meet, compete and gain experience.
“This is USM’s first time as an organizer and I am very excited if we were given the opportunity to organize such programmee in future”, he said during the closing and award giving ceremony here yesterday.
In the meantime, the Head of the Roboteam, International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM), Mohamad Farhan Ahmad said, he is extremely happy and thankful to his teammates for their win and providing their university an excellent reputation.
“This is a shared victory for all students from this field”, said farhan who represents his team which won the Quadcopter category.
“For me other than fostering closer ties, this programme provides astounding benefits for us in gaining the latest knowledge and improving all the shortcomings in order for us to be more creative and innovative in future”, he added.
All the winners took back a cash prize of RM500.00 for the first place, RM300.00 for second place and RM100.00 third place together with trophies and certificates.
Also present at the closing ceremony are the Deputy Dean (Academic), School of Aerospace Engineering, Dr. Ahmad Zulfa Mohammad Kassim including two programme sponsors the Manager, Synergy (M) Sdn. Bhd., Muhammad Syafiee Mazlan and Managing Director, Jat Asset Intergrity Offshore & Onshore Sdn. Bhd., Azhar Abdul Aziz.
