USM CHARITY CHINESE CULTURAL NIGHT SUCCEEDED IN RAISING A FUND OF RM5,200
NIBONG TEBAL, 18 April 2015 – The Tionghua Society (PBT), Engineering Campus, University Sains Malaysia (USM) through Charity Chinese Cultural Night 2016 last night was successful in raising a fund of RM5,200, which is RM1,000 more compared to last year.
The funds were collected through ticket sales for the night’s show and contributions from the industry as well as the rentals from the food truck operators.
In the finale last night, Advisor, Tionghua Society, Associate Professor Dr.Cheong Kok Keong said he is very supportive of the programme as it is very effective in spreading love while doing the right things to make changes in society.
“One of the main pillars in fulfilling people’s lives is to mutually help one another”, he said.

According to him, it is one of the efforts to bridge the surrounding community with the Engineering Campus community especially the students.
“This is a suitable platform in polishing the students’ soft skills in line with the seven core areas in shaping the APEX university student”, added the Deputy Dean, Research and Graduate, Civil Engineering Research Center.
He said, the exposure and space must be provided to them which would raise public awareness and encourage and attract more people to participate in charity work.
Meanwhile, Project Director, Tan Joo Keat said the programme with the theme “Ju Qi Cheng” which means assembly, start and inherit is not only aimed at promoting traditional Chinese culture but to also raise awareness about the welfare of the underprivileged.
“Culture is the identity of a certain community of a country and is our responsibility to preserve the unique culture and traditions inherited from our ancestors”, said Joo Kean.
The programme which began in 2012 has also attracted many foreign traders and industry in contributing to the needy. Among the contributors are K-Garden Hotel and United Sweethearts Garment for the Gold Sponsor category, Chang Jiang White Coffee for the Silver Sponsor category and Rice Bowl for the Bronze Sponsor.
That night, the two welfare centers chosen to receive contributions were Crystal Home and Penang Lotus Society Hospice of Compassion which each received a donation of RM2,600.
Also present at the ceremony were the Acting Chairman of the Youth Movement, Penang, Loo Jieh Sheng representing the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, Advisor, Tionghua Society, Khor Gek Suan and Head of Unit, Student Affairs and Alumni Division, Nur Akmar Idris.
