“WUS 101” PLANTS ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAIT WITHIN STUDENTS
NIBONG TEBAL, 27 April 2016 – Currently students should not focus on their studies solely but they should envision wider opportunities in the entrepreneurial field.
Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Engineering Campus, Profesor Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah said the importance in implementing the enterpreneur expo is to inculcate entrepreneurial traits within the students.
He said students need to be more creative and view the course Core Entreprenuership (WUS 101) as a platform to develop students with visions in enterpreneurship subsequently upholding the community’s and country’s economy.
He was accompanied by lecturers and University officers along with a representative from Penang Development Corporation (PDC), Zahida Mohd Idris spent time to visit each stall and interacted with the students on the first day of the programme which started yesterday for two days at the Main Hall, Engineering Campus.
Likewise, according to the lecturer of Core Entreprenuership (WUS 101), Dr. Md. Sayuti Ishak said, the Entrepreneur Expo is one of the assessments for students who are taking the course.
”It is a university course and is a requirement for each student to graduate”, he said.
Sayuti added, each group consists of four to six students from different races and schools.
”This provides the opportunity for students to get acquainted with others from different schools, instill unity and cooperative attitude”, he said.
Besides providing the focus on professional occupations according to their fields taken at the university, students must also be smart and creative in finding business opportunities through the entrepreneurial knowledge learnt”, said Sayuti.
”The entrepreneurial field is vast to be expored by students and it requires courage that will ensure a bountiful profit, if they are enthusiastic and on the right path”, added Sayuti.
The programme provides exposure for students to practice all the entrepreneurial basics that they learned such as business dealings with suppliers, sales techniques and the technique in running a business.
This year, there is a slight difference where 27 schools from the northern region also participated in the expo while opening stalls to sell products of their own creativity and efforts.
According to him, the success in the participation of schools under the ”Tunas Muda” Project, was through the cooperation of PDC and the university in encouraging their involvement in entrepreneurship.
He explains, “School students are hoped to be able to practice entrepreneurship studied with the aid of USM which provides the instructors for the schools in Penang sponsored by PDC.
Approximately more than 500 students are involved in this year’s entrepreneur expo and more than 1,500 visitors were from the surrounding community, staff and students.
Also present to enliven the expo this time around is Columbia Asia Hospital,Taiping branch which offerred free health check-ups, fitness tests and CPR demonstrations.
Visitors and students present were also entertained in the evening with the cultural show by the Co-Curriculum students, guitar, ’kompang berlagu’, aerobics and a special performance by the ROTUs Airforce,Navy and military.
