ENGINEERING CAMPUS OUGHT TO FOCUS IN IMPROVING QUALITY - VC
NIBONG TEBAL, 4 January 2018 - Engineering Campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is urged to focus more on improving the quality of its schools and Research Center in the future.
The call was made by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail during her visit to the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering (PPKBSM) and the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (PPKEE) here today.
"This is because the current status in the Campus shows that schools and departments in Engineering have achieved academic excellence and they have been recognized locally and internationally.
"Thus, in years to come, the focus should be on improving their respective positions that indicate that USM is a Global University," she added.
Moreover, Asma also urged each School to expose students to more activities and not solely focused on academic performance alone.
"Encourage students to balance between academic and co-curricular activities such as sports to ensure that graduates who graduated from this university are those who are determined and competitive," added Asma.
There were also sessions with the Vice-Chancellor involving staff from PPKBSM and PPKEE during the visit.
Through this session, she also mentioned that the communication among staff needs to be channeled effectively to create harmony in USM.
"Effective communication can be summarized as a driving force in an organization.
"In fact, in 2018, several relevant agendas have been listed to ensure that the rapport within USM is further enhanced, contributing to a positivity enhancement of USM," he said.
Also present at the event was Director of Engineering Campus, Professor Dr. Nor Azazi Zakaria.
