USM EMERGED CHAMPION IN STUDENT PROGRAM AT APIC2018

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 August 2018 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today achieved another milestone by winning the Student Program at the Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference 2018 (APIC 2018). APIC 2018 Student Programme was host by Malaysian Petrochemicals Association (MPA) with the support of PETRONAS. The Student Programme is introduced with the aim to provide an international platform for students to highlight talent as well as the ability to come up with a project “Emerging Smart Material in Petrochemicals Applications”. Detail of the student programme including trip to Petronas RAPID Project in Pengerang, forum with companies and project presentation.

The team was led by its advisor, Dr. Raa Khimi Bin Shuib from the Polymer Engineering Programme, School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, USM along with team members consisting of Chin Sheng, Amirah Azwani, Muhamad Nurhaziq, Nur Diyana Syazni and Pitiphong Srisuwan.

Their winning entry was a project entitled ‘Self Healing Elastomeric Material for Petrochemical Hoses’ which managed to beat 4 other universities in this category. The winners received a prize worth RM 5,000, token of appreciation and certificates.
