REDAC USM PARTICIPATED IN THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY UNESCO-IHP (RSC-AP) AND WATER RESOURCES FORUM AT PUTRAJAYA
PUTRAJAYA, 8 November 2023 –The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) River Engineering and Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC) recently took part in the 30th Anniversary UNESCO-IHP Regional Steering Committee for Asia and the Pacific and Water Resources forum.
According to the Director of REDAC, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Remy Rozainy Mohd Arif Zainol, this participation coincides with the aspiration to contribute the experience and expertise, particularly in the field of water resource management that later will impact the society at large.
“Additionally, the involvement of researchers from REDAC throughout the programme will build opportunities and open doors for collaboration with various participating government and private agencies, not only from Malaysia but other parts of the world as well,” said Remy.
“As part of that, we also hope to contribute as well as continue to make an impact in areas relating to SDG 6, on clean water and sanitation, in accordance with USM’s APEX mission and agenda in the years ahead,” he said. Remy is also involved as a speaker and moderator during the programme.
Meanwhile, in delivering his opening remarks, Director General of Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Malaysia, Major (Hon) Dato’ Ir. Dr. Ahmad Anuar Othman believed that the programme would be able to serve as a platform for the professionals, with regard to the relevant water resources.
“All participants attending from the 21 countries are welcome to discuss and exchange experiences, ideas and present their research findings to the group of people with the same interests throughout this event,” says Ahmad Anuar.
“We hope that the programme will provide us the opportunity to leverage on collective knowledge and establish innovative approaches towards ensuring a future characterised by water security.
“Let us come together with the determination to overcome obstacles, work together tirelessly, and boldly pursue innovations, as well as aiming to achieve a sustainable and resilient water future, supported by the Integrated Water Resources Management principles,” he said.
With the theme ‘Accelerating Changes Towards a Multidisciplinary Approach in Water Resources Management’, the forum was organised by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Malaysia and in collaboration from the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change of Malaysia, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
