AICCE’22, TOWARDS THE LATEST KNOWLEDGE IN SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT

NIBONG TEBAL, 20th February 2022 - Awam International Conference on Civil Engineering (AICCE’22) which was virtually held recently by the School of Civil Engineering (PPKA) Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) had brought forward the latest knowledge in sustainable urban development among its practitioners.

“As a Research University, our emphasis has always been on performing R&D with High Tech High Touch and today we stand by our motto WE LEAD, for we are now the leading sustainability-led university in the country” said the Campus Director of Engineering Campus, Professor Dr. Nor Azazi Zakaria.

“In conjunction with the USM agenda towards sustainable development, this conference’s theme of 'Sustainability and Resiliency: Re-engineering the Future” will undoubtedly benefit the university, engineers, researchers, government bodies and postgraduate students in presenting themselves as well as sharing their knowledge in the said development,” he added.

“In fact, the integration of resiliency is also timely significant to support and develop natural and built environments towards better nations,” says Azazi.

Meanwhile, on his keynote speech, the Dean of PPKA, Professor Dr. Mohd Suffian Yusoff highlighted the many recent occurrences of natural disasters such as earthquakes, flash floods, tsunamis and landslides as well as others due to the rapid development coupled with the rising climate change effects.

“Therefore, academicians, engineers and practitioners need to be at the forefront of knowledge, technology and implementation ready to overcome the challenges,” said Suffian.

“AICCE’22 advocated the integration of multi-disciplinary of civil engineering field to ensure the relevancy of future engineers and practitioners.

“Thus, there were plenty opportunities of knowledge exchange and transfer throughout this conference,” he added.

Noteworthy, AICCE’22 (15th to 17th  February 2022) was also brought together by other supportive partners and collaborators such as International Islamic University Malaysia, Kyushu Institute of Technology, Universitas Muhammaddiyah Yogjakarta, River Engineering and Urban Drainage Research Centre and UNESCO Chairholder on Ecohydraulics for Sustainable Water Infrastructures for SDG of Universiti Sains Malaysia.
