The Office of the Director, Engineering Campus, was established in May 1986 with the inception of the Temporary Campus for the Perak Branch, which operated from the former Ipoh Municipal Council building. Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Muslim Mohd Yusoff was appointed as the inaugural Campus Director, with the responsibility of ensuring the effective operation and administration of USM's Perak Branch Campus (KCP) during that period. The legacy of the Office of the Director was maintained in Nibong Tebal, Penang, when the campus relocated from Seri Iskandar, Perak, to its new location in May 2001.

The Office of the Director is responsible for the provision of professional facilitation services in a number of areas, including Official Programme Management, Hall Facility Coordination, Media and Publications, Protocol, and Visit Management. These services are provided in accordance with the standards set by the university. The office is governed by the Campus Director, with the Senior Assistant Registrar providing support.

• To disseminate and promote information on official university activities
• To coordinate space, equipment, and teaching and learning facilities
• To coordinate and monitor matters related to Quality and Accreditation
• To manage matters related to public relations and communications
• To establish and strengthen external relations and networking
