ZON 2 CLINCHES VICTORY IN SUKJAB 2025 VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT FOR VC’S TROPHY

NIBONG TEBAL, 30 July 2025 - Zone 2 emerged as champions of the SUKJAB 2025 Volleyball Tournament, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed FASc Trophy, after a thrilling final match against last year’s winners, Zone 4.

Representing the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Zone 2 sealed their victory with a 31–24 score line, dethroning Zone 4 (School of Civil Engineering), who had to settle for runner-up this year.

The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, who also serves as the official sponsor of the SUKJAB Volleyball Trophy.

“Congratulations to the team that won the tournament, as well as to all participating teams for demonstrating great sportsmanship throughout the competition,” said the Vice-Chancellor.

“I hope this tournament will continue in the future with even greater enthusiasm and wider participation,” he added.

He also took the opportunity to visit the newly upgraded volleyball, netball, and basketball courts, and commended the Sports and Recreation Centre of the Engineering Campus for their efforts in maintaining the sports facilities in excellent condition for student use.

He further stated that the university would consider upgrading the tennis court in the near future to further ensure the safety and comfort of students during training sessions.

The third-place match saw Zone 6 (School of Aerospace Engineering) overpower Zone 1 (School of Chemical Engineering) with a convincing 31–21 win to complete the tournament podium, in a competition that was fully hosted at the USM Engineering Campus.

Featuring six teams representing all academic schools within the Engineering Campus (Zone 1 through Zone 6), the tournament was a vibrant display of camaraderie, resilience, and sportsmanship among the campus staff.

Also present were the Chairman of Kelab Kebajikan & Sukan Staf Kampus Kejuruteraan (KKSSK), Professor Ir. Dr. Zainal Ahmad, and the Tournament Director Associate Professor Dr. Azam Taufik Mohd Din.
