UNIVERSITY OF TWENTE STUDENTS’ VISIT TO USM STRENGTHENS KNOWLEDGE PARTNERSHIP

NIBONG TEBAL, 28 July 2025 - An academic visit by 22 postgraduate students and two lecturers from the University of Twente, Netherlands, to Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) Engineering Campus has opened doors for closer collaboration in knowledge sharing and research, particularly in the field of chemical science and technology.

Organised by the USM School of Chemical Engineering (PPKK), the visit began with an introductory session by the Dean of PPKK, Professor Ir. Dr. Zainal Ahmad, who highlighted USM’s role in driving innovation-based research at both the national and international levels.

“Through the School of Chemical Engineering, USM places great emphasis on innovation and knowledge sharing with strategic international partners,” he said.

“I am confident that this visit will open up greater opportunities for joint projects, student exchanges, and shared use of research facilities, further strengthening our global academic network,” Zainal added.

The University of Twente delegation, led by Professor Dr. Ing. Meik B. Franke also featured a brief presentation by Harmen Nanninga, a master’s student in Chemical Engineering, who introduced the university during the session at PPKK.

The programme continued with tours of several key PPKK laboratories, including the Central Analytical Laboratory, Unit Operation Laboratory, Process Control Laboratory, and Membrane Technology Research Laboratory, in addition to visiting the Science and Engineering Research Centre (SERC) to view more of the campus’ research facilities.
