MERBAH SURIH CLINCHES BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP, OPENS HWS 2025

PENANG, 15 August 2025 – The Merbah Surih contingent from the Main Campus emerged as the overall champion of the Tenpin Bowling Competition held in conjunction with Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) Staff Day (HWS) 2025 at Mega Mall Penang today.

This victory also marked the official curtain-raiser for the HWS 2025 series of competitions scheduled from 15 to 16 August 2025.

With strong determination and consistent throws, Merbah Surih overcame four other contingents, Pipit Hutan, Merbah Surih, Sambar Kuning, Pekaka Udang, and Pucung Harimau to claim the championship title with a total pinfall of 5860.

Pipit Hutan secured second place with 5492 pins, while Pekaka Udang finished third with 5484 pins.

The prizes were presented by the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed.

The champion contingent’s success was further highlighted by individual accolades, with the Highest Individual Pinfall for Men claimed by Arief Ranadhan Juswa from Merbah Surih with 714 pins.

Meanwhile, Nor Zainah from Pipit Hutan topped the Highest Individual Pinfall for Women category with 566 pins.

The closely contested competition featured five contingents and more than 60 participants.
