WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2.0 PROMOTES CAMPUS-WIDE AWARENESS ON MENTAL WELL-BEING

NIBONG TEBAL, 25 October 2025 - The Secretariat of Mentor Rakan Siswa (MRS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Engineering Campus, successfully organised World Mental Health Day 2.0, aimed at strengthening awareness and understanding of mental health across the campus community.
The programme focused on equipping participants with essential knowledge on mental health, practical strategies for managing emotional challenges, and cultivating a positive and supportive mindset towards overall well-being.
A variety of interactive and educational activities were held throughout the day, combining fun engagement with meaningful learning experiences.
The one-day event featured a series of informative sessions including a forum by the Seberang Perai Selatan District Health Office (Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah SPS), a health talk by Yakult (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., complimentary health screenings, and a health exhibition that brought together 13 exhibitors representing various health and wellness sectors.
In addition, 13 vendor booths offered food, beverages, and lifestyle products, adding vibrancy to the event while supporting campus entrepreneurship.

This initiative also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by encouraging student-led enterprise and promoting sustainable economic participation within the university environment.
According to Programme Director Mohamad Faris Izzuddin Mohamad Fakarudin, the programme provided a vital platform for students to understand and prioritise their mental health while helping to break the stigma associated with mental health issues.
“We hope this initiative inspires the campus community to pay greater attention to their mental well-being and to support one another in creating a healthier, more positive environment,” he said.
According to Faris, in line with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, this initiative reinforces USM’s continuous commitment to promoting both physical and mental wellness as part of its sustainable campus practices.
“By highlighting the importance of mental health education and awareness, the programme supports USM’s mission to cultivate a balanced, healthy, and resilient community,” he added.
The event received strong participation and support from students, staff, and exhibitor, reflecting the growing dedication towards mental health advocacy and holistic well-being within the USM Engineering Campus community.
