USM ENGINEERING CAMPUS, PDRM DISCUSS COLLABORATION TO ENHANCE CAMPUS COMMUNITY SAFETY

NIBONG TEBAL, 13 November 2025 - The Director of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Engineering Campus, Professor Ir. Dr. Mariatti Jaafar @ Mustapha, today received a courtesy visit from the District Police Chief of Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS), Superintendent Jay January Siowou.

The visit served as a meet-and-greet session and a platform for discussions on potential collaborations between the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and USM Engineering Campus in areas of crime prevention, security, and the overall well-being of the university community.

During the meeting, Superintendent Jay January proposed that a special talk session be organised to raise awareness among USM Engineering Campus students on social responsibility, self-discipline, and the role of university students as the “eyes and ears” of the police.

He also emphasised the importance of maintaining a crime-free campus environment and encouraged the university community to set a positive example for society.

Meanwhile, Professor Ir. Dr. Mariatti welcomed the proposal and expressed her appreciation to the Seberang Perai Selatan District Police Headquarters (IPD SPS) for their continued cooperation in various university initiatives over the years.

“USM greatly welcomes PDRM’s efforts to work together in strengthening campus safety and community well-being through awareness and educational programmes,” she said.

She also extended an open invitation to police personnel who wish to pursue their studies at USM, as part of the university’s efforts to broaden access to knowledge and professional development opportunities.

Also present were Mohd Kamil Ashar, Principle Assistant Registrar, Office of the Campus Director; ASP Suriati Fakirimara, Head of Administration Division; ASP Yuhann Ross Mohamed Yusof, Head of District Criminal Investigation Division; ASP Rusli Tipu, Head of Nibong Tebal Police Station and Inspector Muhammad Helmi Zainudin, representative of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division.
