Introduction

Established on 1 January 1989, the School of Mechanical Engineering at Universiti Sains Malaysia plays a leading role in education and research in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. With the goal of producing competitive and high-quality graduates, the school addresses the growing demands of Malaysia's rapidly expanding industries, particularly in the areas of design, manufacturing, maintenance, as well as the development of mechanical systems and devices. Emphasis is placed on the application of engineering principles aligned with current industry needs.

As a centre of academic and professional excellence, the school adopts a holistic approach by offering of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supported by research, development, and industry engagement. The curriculum is designed to foster mastery of the latest technologies in mechanical engineering and manufacturing, while also developing students’ competencies in both technical and managerial aspects. Located at the USM Engineering Campus in Nibong Tebal, the School of Mechanical Engineering is committed to advancing knowledge and producing innovative, ethical engineers who are prepared to lead change in the global industrial landscape.
