Science and Engineering Research Centre (SERC) USM is established as a center for delivering meaningful and impactful materials characterization through state-of-the-art analytical instruments for academia, industries, and the research community beyond. Embracing the concept of the shared facility and shared services makes SERC become a conducive acculturating world-class research and development enabler since 2013. A clear Vision, Mission, and Objectives serve as the catalyst for SERC’s success as a leading Shared Facility Centre that the university takes pride in. The following Vision, Mission, and Objectives have been developed through the Strategic Planning Framework.

Vision: Preferred Sustainable Testing and Analysis Hub

Mission: To provide quality, satisfying, and sustainable testing and analysis services to our customers with cutting-edge technology equipment and technical advisory consultation whilst acculturating a conducive ecosystem among our stakeholders

Objectives:

1. Embarks to be a one-stop centre, particularly for the Northern region, providing comprehensive material testing and analysis to academia, industries, and the research community
2. Fostering and bridging the experts from academia and industries
3. Maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation of the world-recognized standard for SERC Mechanical Testing Lab (SMTL) as a testing lab
4. Acculturating research activities by facilitating high-end research facilities for the cutting-edge research.
5. Providing competent technical training and skills related to various equipment
6. Complying with good laboratory and management practices at all levels
