INNOPLANET 2025, SHAPING SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH INNOVATION

NIBONG TEBAL, June 14, 2025 – The spirit of sustainability and innovation was in full bloom at the USM Engineering Campus during INNOPLANET 2025, a student-led exhibition and competition that brought together aspiring innovators from across Malaysia.

Organised by the Student Representative Council (MPP) of USM Engineering Campus, in collaboration with MPP Secretariat, Mineral and Materials Engineering Society (MIMATES), Mentor Rakan Siswa (MRS), and Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the event served as a dynamic platform to celebrate local ingenuity under the theme "Shaping Sustainability Through Innovation."

The event was officiated by Murshid Md Hussain, the Cultural Officer of the Division of Student Development Affairs and Alumni (BHEPA), who represented the Director of the Student Development Centre.

“INNOPLANET is not merely a competition, but a prestigious platform where university and pre-university students can develop impactful ideas addressing real-world challenges,” said Murshid in his speech.

He said that, with categories such as Environmental Impact, Green Solutions and Circular Economy, the programme reflects the commitment of youth to sustainability and social responsibility.

He also praised the exhibition booths and the active participation of student clubs, which he said had made the atmosphere lively and engaging.

This year’s edition saw participation from eight teams representing USM, UNIMAP, UTM, UNIMAS, and Politeknik Nilai, showcasing innovative tech and science projects.

Students from SMK Panglima Bukit Gantang, SMK Sri Perak, and SMKA Syeikh Abdullah were also invited to explore the university's innovation culture.

The INNOPLANET 2025 champion was the team from Politeknik Nilai in Negeri Sembilan, followed by the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (USM) in second place and the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering (USM) in third.

On behalf of the organising committee, the programme director, Nor Farisyatul Husna Abdullah, expressed sincere thanks to the dedicated student volunteers, sponsors, partners and contributors whose support ensured the event's success.

"With such positive feedback, INNOPLANET is set to return stronger than ever in 2026, confirming that the future of innovation is student-led, inclusive and boundless," said Farisyatul.

Also present were the Dean of the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Professor Ts. Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Ariff and Dr. Mohamad Ikhwan Zaini Ridzwan, who were representing the Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering.
