JLU DOMINATES VARIASISWA NIGHT 2025 WITH CREATIVITY AND SUSTAINABILITY SPIRIT

NIBONG TEBAL, 5 December 2025 - Variasiswa Night 2025 once again captivated the USM community as first-year students from all residential colleges gathered to showcase their talents, creativity, and teamwork.
Variasiswa, the annual performing arts competition featuring cheers, singing, acting, music, dance, and drama, serves as an important platform for new students to express ideas, demonstrate potential and embrace the university’s sustainability values.
For the first time since its inception two decades ago, this year’s edition was held at the Sports Complex, Sports and Recreation Centre, Engineering Campus, in conjunction with the Gegaq Festival 2025, bringing a fresh and exciting experience to participants and the campus community.
Desasiswa Jaya Lembaran Utama (JLU) stole the spotlight by clinching the Overall Champion title for Variasiswa Night 2025, while also taking home the Best Performance Award and Best Cheer Award.


This achievement marks JLU’s most outstanding success in the history of its participation in Variasiswa, surpassing its previous records and making this year a milestone of excellence.
With the theme “USM For Future: A Sustainable Journey”, each residential college delivered emotionally charged narratives infused with visual creativity and cultural elements, while reinforcing the university’s sustainability message.
The opening ceremony was officiated by USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Development and Alumni Affairs, Professor Dr. Wan Ahmad Jaafar Wan Yahaya, who emphasized that Variasiswa is not merely an entertainment stage but a platform to nurture students who are bold, creative thinkers and future leaders.
Meanwhile, Project Director, Ahmad Husaini Shaharuddin expressed pride in the dedication and collaboration of all parties involved in making the event a success.


According to him, the success of Variasiswa Night 2025 was the result of integrated efforts and continuous commitment by the organizing committee from the planning stage to the grand finale.
“Variasiswa Night 2025 proves that when talent, courage and sustainability values unite, we create a generation that not only excels in creativity but also drives the future of the university and the world,” he said.
In addition to the main categories, the night also featured the Freshies Choice Award, recognizing participants who stood out for their personality, creativity, and stage presence.
Also present were Director of the Engineering Campus, Professor Ir. Dr. Mariatti Jaafar; Senior Deputy Registrar of BHEPA, Shukeri A. Rahaman, Dr. Abdul Rais Abdul Latiff, Chairman of the Penggawa Council; as well as deans, residential college heads and senior university officials.
