FROM ENGINEERING CAMPUS TO USM STUDENT PARLIAMENT SPEAKER, MUHAMMAD NURAIMAN MOHD YUSRINO MAKES HISTORY!

USM PENANG, 17 January 2026 - Muhammad Nuraiman Mohd Yusrino, a student from the Engineering Campus, made history when he was appointed Speaker of the USM Student Parliament for the 2025/2026 session, becoming the first representative from the campus to hold the prestigious position.
The appointment took place during the First Sitting of the USM Student Parliament, held at the University Conference Hall, which saw the debate of 18 motions involving 45 Student Representative Council members, 45 student representatives, 45 observers and members of the Special Motions Committee.
A final-year student from the School of Civil Engineering (PPKA), Muhammad Nuraiman described the appointment as a significant responsibility and a reflection of the confidence placed in the leadership capabilities of Engineering Campus students.
“It is an honour and a responsibility that I will carry out with humility and a strong sense of duty,” he said.

He added that the appointment marked a historic moment, as it was the first time the Engineering Campus had been entrusted with the Speaker’s role since the establishment of the platform, previously known as the Student Consultative Council.
According to him, the Student Parliament serves as an important check-and-balance mechanism between students and the university administration, while also functioning as an official platform for structured, fact-based, and ethical discourse.
“I hope all members of the Student Parliament will carry out their responsibilities with integrity, respect differing views and always prioritise the interests of the student community,” he added.
