USM ENGINEERING CAMPUS AND PPJJ INTRODUCE MSC VIA APEL PROGRAMMES TO MICRON MEMORY MALAYSIA

BATU KAWAN, 19 January 2026 - Universiti Sains Malaysia Engineering Campus held a promotional session for its Master of Science (MSc) through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) programmes at Micron Memory Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Batu Kawan to introduce flexible academic pathways for the company’s staff.

The session involved six lecturers from the six engineering schools, namely Aerospace, Civil, Materials and Mineral Resources, Electrical and Electronic, Chemical and Mechanical, along with the School of Distance Education and the APEL Assessment Centre.

USM Engineering Campus Director, Professor Ir. Dr. Mariatti Jaafar, said the university is committed to providing relevant and flexible educational pathways to meet current industry needs.

“The MSc through APEL programmes give Micron staff the opportunity to enhance their academic qualifications without affecting their work commitments,” she said.

She added that the USM-Micron collaboration, which started in 2025 through the ATMP curriculum, has created significant opportunities for developing the nation’s semiconductor talent.

Professor Mariatti also expressed hope that the initiative will strengthen the strategic partnership and produce more highly skilled professionals in the future.

“Furthermore, we also plan to expand promotional sessions like this in the future in collaboration with other industries across the Northern Zone,” she added.
