DESASISWA JAYA LEMBARAN UTAMA SHOWS STRONG PERFORMANCE AT SUKAD PHASE 1 USM 2026

USM PENANG, 18 January 2026 - The Phase 1 of the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Inter-Residential Sports Tournament (SUKAD), which took place over three days from January 16 to 18 at the USM Main Campus, concluded successfully with high sporting spirit and enthusiastic participation.
The opening phase of the annual tournament served as an early platform to assess the performance of each residential college of USM.
Jaya Lembaran Utama (JLU) from the Engineering Campus recorded an impressive achievement after securing six gold medals in Chess (Women), Chess (Men), Futsal (Men), Tennis (Men), Badminton (Women) and Handball (Men).
In addition, JLU also clinched four silver medals through Badminton (Men), E-sports (Women), Tennis (Women) and Futsal (Women). Three bronze medals were contributed by Petanque (Women), Volleyball (Women) and Handball (Women).
The JLU contingent also demonstrated commendable performances in several other events including Petanque (Men), E-sports (Men), Volleyball (Men), Netball, as well as Hockey for both men and women.


Based on the SUKAD Phase 1 scoring system, the Engineering Campus successfully accumulated a total of 67 points from medal wins, semi-final appearances and overall participation across the contested events.
According to JLU Principal, Hasliza Mat Saad, the achievement reflects the high level of discipline, thorough preparation and strong commitment shown by the athletes, team management and the continuous support from the JLU community.
“Besides serving as a competitive platform, SUKAD Phase 1 also contributes to the holistic development of students by nurturing leadership qualities, physical and mental resilience, self-discipline and a strong sense of unity among the residential colleges,” she said.
SUKAD Phase 1 brought together students from all USM residential colleges who competed in selected events including tennis, netball, futsal, badminton, volleyball, hockey, chess, e-sports, petanque and handball.
