ENGINEERING CAMPUS IS NOW OFFICIALLY NAMED AS TUANKU SYED SIRAJUDDIN ENGINEERING CAMPUS, USM

ARAU, PERLIS, 22 January 2026 - The Engineering Campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has officially been named Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Engineering Campus, USM, following a proclamation by the Chancellor of USM, His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail.
Located in Nibong Tebal, Penang, the campus currently accommodates 4,453 students and has produced 23,575 alumni since its establishment. It serves as a major hub for engineering education and research within the university.


The campus comprises six schools, namely Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It also houses several high-impact research centres, including the River Engineering and Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC), the Collaborative Microelectronic Design Excellence Centre (CEDEC), and the Science and Engineering Research Centre (SERC).


The official naming reflects the strengthening of the campus’ role as a centre of excellence in semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced electronic packaging, and various engineering disciplines through strategic collaborations with local and international industry partners.
The declaration further signifies the campus’ continued commitment to advancing academic excellence, technological innovation, and the development of highly skilled human capital in support of industrial growth and regional development.
