GRADUATE EMPLOYABILITY READINESS PROGRAM EMPOWERS CHEMICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS AHEAD OF USM CAREER CARNIVAL 2026

NIBONG TEBAL, 29 April 2026 - The School of Chemical Engineering, in collaboration with Student & Alumni Development Affairs Division (BHEPA) and Alumni Development Centre (ADC) Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), today organised a Graduate Employability Readiness Programme as an initiative to strengthen students’ preparation for the workforce.
The programme, themed “Beyond the Scroll, Equipping the Next Generation of Chemical Engineers”, aims to provide industry exposure and career preparation, particularly in understanding current trends, workplace realities, and employer expectations across various engineering sectors.
In addition, the programme serves as a platform to foster two-way engagement between students and alumni of the School of Chemical Engineering, while expanding professional networks among future graduates.

Targeting year three and year four students, the programme focuses on enhancing graduate readiness, including skills development, knowledge enhancement, and building confidence prior to entering the job market.
Notably, the programme featured invited panellists who are alumni of the School of Chemical Engineering, namely Raja Khairul Anwar Raja Baharudin, Uvannesan Krishnasamy, and Selah Anak Jalak, who shared their professional experiences and industry insights with the students.
They are currently attached to Cenergi SEA Berhad, Petronas Chemicals Fertilizer, and Dexcom (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., respectively.
Senior Assistant Registrar of BHEPA and Phase 1 Coordinator for the USM Career Carnival 2026 programme, Norzita Nanyan, said the programme is part of a structured effort to ensure students achieve a high level of employability.

According to her, the initiative serves as an early platform to holistically prepare students before entering the actual workforce.
“This programme is also part of the preliminary preparation towards the USM Career Carnival 2026, which will take place from 20 to 21 May, involving participation from all schools in USM,” she said.
Also present was the Chairman of the Alumni Committee of the School of Chemical Engineering, Professor Dr. Mohd Azmier Ahmad, in support of the programme.
