25TH ENGINEERING CARNIVAL STRENGTHENS INDUSTRY LINKS AND STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

NIBONG TEBAL, 24 June 2026 - The 25th Engineering Carnival of the Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Engineering Campus (KKTSS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), concluded with a closing ceremony held on 21 June.

Held in conjunction with the campus’ Silver Jubilee celebration, the carnival brought together a wide range of programmes and activities organised by student associations and campus-based organisations.

The closing ceremony was officiated by the Campus Director, Professor Ir. Dr. Mariatti Jaafar @ Mustapha.

In her speech, she highlighted that such initiatives serve as an important platform for holistic student development while strengthening collaboration between the university and industry.

She noted that the Career Carnival, held throughout the programme, played a significant role in connecting students directly with industry players by providing exposure to current labour market demands, facilitating professional networking, and enhancing graduates’ employability.

She added that the active participation of industry partners reflects their confidence in the quality of graduates produced by the Engineering Campus, further reinforcing strategic collaboration between both parties.

She also emphasised that the campus’ achievements over the past 25 years are the result of continuous commitment from the campus community, students, alumni, and industry partners who have supported its development.

According to her, these achievements provide a strong foundation for the campus to further strengthen its role as a leading engineering education institution in the future.

She further stressed that holistic student development will remain a priority through the integration of leadership skills, teamwork, entrepreneurial elements, professional values, and ethics, as well as the strengthening of communication and critical thinking skills.

“This approach is essential to ensure that students not only excel academically but are also well prepared to face real-world challenges after graduation,” she said.

Meanwhile, Programme Director, Danish Aiman, who also represents the Mechanical Engineering Students’ Representative Council, said the carnival successfully served as a unifying platform for the campus community through academic, sports, welfare, and community-oriented programmes.

He explained that the 25th Engineering Carnival not only commemorates the campus’ anniversary but also reflects the spirit of unity and collaboration among the campus community.

He added that the celebration is expected to further drive student excellence in academic achievement, leadership, and character development, in line with the university’s aspiration to produce competitive, ethical, and socially responsible graduates.

Also present were the Dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Professor Ir. Dr. Fadzli Mohamed Nazri, Desasiswa Jaya Lembaran Utama’s Penggawa Hasliza Mad Saad, KKTSS Counsellor Mohd Hanif, and President of the KKTSS Students’ Representative Council, Muhammad Nuraiman Mohd Yusrino.
