TWO USM ENGINEERING STUDENTS SELECTED FOR SKYGLOBAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME IN TÜRKIYE

NIBONG TEBAL, PENANG, 28 July 2026 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), through its two engineering schools, continues to strengthen its commitment to producing globally competitive graduates as two of its students have been selected to participate in the SKYGLOBAL Internship Programme, earning the opportunity to undergo industrial training at Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) in Ankara, Türkiye.

Recently, 20 students from various Malaysian public and private higher education institutions were selected for the SKYGLOBAL Internship Programme during a ceremony held at the MIGHT Partnership Hub, Cyberjaya, on 20 July 2026.

The two USM participants are Nirmatha A/P Jeyakumar, a third-year student from the School of Aerospace Engineering, and Viashnevi Ragu, a third-year student from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Dean of the School of Aerospace Engineering, Associate Professor Dr. Elmi Abu Bakar, said the School remains committed to supporting student development through participation in programmes at both the national and international levels.

"The School of Aerospace Engineering fully supports all student development initiatives, both domestically and internationally, as part of our commitment to elevating the reputation of Universiti Sains Malaysia on the global stage. Continuous support from the School serves as a vital catalyst for students to hone their talents, unlock their potential, and compete confidently in the international arena," he said.

Meanwhile,Nirmatha A/P Jeyakumar expressed her gratitude and excitement upon being selected for the prestigious programme.

She described the opportunity to undertake an internship at TUSAŞ as a significant milestone that will provide first-hand exposure to the global aerospace industry while allowing her to learn from experienced professionals and further develop her technical and professional competencies.

She added that the experience would serve as an important stepping stone towards becoming a competent aerospace engineer and hoped it would inspire more undergraduates to pursue similar international opportunities that foster confidence, broaden perspectives, and enhance their competitiveness.

The SKYGLOBAL Internship Programme provides participants with valuable exposure to the latest developments in aerospace technology and the global aviation industry while strengthening their practical knowledge through real-world industrial experience.

The programme also enables students to build international professional networks and contributes to the development of a highly skilled local workforce capable of supporting the nation's aerospace industry upon graduation.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, the Ambassador of Türkiye to Malaysia, Dr. Nevzat Uyanık, and the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia, Professor Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed.
