USM DIGITAL WEEK 2026 STRENGTHENS DIGITALISATION AND INNOVATION CULTURE ACROSS THREE CAMPUSES
NIBONG TEBAL, 26 June 2026 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing the digital transformation agenda through the organisation of USM Digital Week 2026, a five-day programme held from 22 to 26 June 2026.
Led by the Digital Transformation Centre (PTD), the annual programme was held simultaneously at the Main Campus, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Engineering Campus and Health Campus, featuring a wide range of activities centred on digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, cybersecurity, sustainability and digital competency development among the university community.
Carrying the theme “Inclusive Digital Transformation for All”, USM Digital Week 2026 served as a strategic platform to strengthen digital literacy, bridge the digital divide and promote the ethical and responsible use of technology among the USM community.
The programme also supports the university’s aspiration to develop a more innovative and competitive campus community that is prepared to face the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) and the rapidly evolving AI era.
At the Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Engineering Campus, Digital Week 2026 featured a variety of activities that received encouraging participation from staff and students. Among the key activities organised were:
- Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Esports Competition
- AI 2 Prompt Poster Competition
- Free PC Check-up Clinic
- “Excel Tak Susah Pun!” Talk
- NotebookLM Sharing Session
- “Goodbye Minit Manual: Automasi Pengurusan Mesyuarat dengan EzMeeting” Session
- “Tips & Tricks PowerPoint: Dari Biasa ke Luar Biasa” Workshop
- “Menulis Buku Dalam Era AI Menggunakan Gemini” Talk
- E-Waste Talk with the Penang State Department of Environment
Various knowledge-sharing sessions conducted by USM’s internal experts and invited speakers provided participants with exposure to the latest digital applications, office task automation, generative AI technologies and more efficient and productive technology management practices.
The E-Waste Talk also raised awareness among the campus community on the importance of sustainable electronic waste management, while the PC Clinic provided free technical check-ups and advisory services to the campus community, reflecting PTD’s commitment to delivering services that are accessible and responsive to the needs of the university community.
Throughout Digital Week 2026, all three USM campuses organised a diverse range of activities tailored to the needs of their respective communities.
At the Main Campus, participants took part in digital transformation forums, innovation competitions, AI challenges such as Prompt2Poster and Prompt2Solve, as well as various sharing sessions on Gemini AI, NotebookLM, cybersecurity, chatbots and Enterprise Architecture.
Meanwhile, the Health Campus featured digital competitions, a Virtual Fun Run, AI Creative Design Bootcamp, TikTok competitions, esports and various activities combining creativity, technology and digital health.
The simultaneous implementation of activities across all three campuses demonstrated the synergy among the USM community in advancing the university’s digitalisation agenda in an inclusive manner.
Throughout the five-day programme, USM Digital Week 2026 received encouraging participation from academic staff, administrative staff, students and various Schools/Centres/Departments.
In addition to gaining knowledge through the sharing sessions, participants had the opportunity to put their creativity, technical skills and innovative thinking to the test through the various competitions organised.
The programme not only strengthened the digital competencies of the university community, but also fostered a culture of lifelong learning and encouraged the exploration of emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness of teaching, research and service delivery.
USM Digital Week 2026 concluded on 26 June 2026 with closing ceremonies held at each campus, including prize presentations to competition winners and recognition of individuals and teams who demonstrated excellence throughout the programme.
The organisation of USM Digital Week 2026 reflects Universiti Sains Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening its digitalisation ecosystem in a comprehensive and inclusive manner. Through close collaboration among the three campuses, the programme not only enhanced digital literacy among the university community but also served as a catalyst for developing a smarter, more innovative and resilient work culture.
The success of USM Digital Week 2026 is expected to pave the way for more digital transformation initiatives in the future, further strengthening USM’s position as a progressive and innovative university that continues to lead the digitalisation agenda in Malaysian higher education.
