MOTHER PLANS TRANSFER TO SUPPORT DAUGHTER’S ENGINEERING JOURNEY AT KKTSS USM

NIBONG TEBAL, 19 September 2026 - The registration of 19-year-old See An Na as a new Aerospace Engineering student at the Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Engineering Campus (KKTSS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), here today comes with a mother’s determination to move closer to her only child and continue providing support throughout her university journey.

For Chin Lee Lin, 50, a teacher at Sekolah Menengah Sung Siew, Sandakan, the decision to consider a transfer is driven by her desire to ensure that her daughter receives the support she needs as she adapts to university life.

She said that although the move would require her to leave her current workplace in Sabah, her daughter’s well-being and needs remain her priority.

“I am planning to apply for a transfer to a school in Penang so that I can be closer to my daughter and continue to help and support her throughout her studies at USM,” she said when met during the KKTSS new student registration today.

See An Na, who is a student with hearing impairment, chose to pursue Aerospace Engineering after being attracted to the opportunities and learning environment offered by USM.

She said the opportunity to pursue a field that interests her was among the key factors that influenced her decision to choose USM for her higher education.

Meanwhile, Chin said she was also relieved after witnessing first-hand the preparations and support provided by the university to facilitate the registration process and welfare of students with special needs.

She said the warm reception from campus staff and assistance provided throughout the registration process gave her confidence that her daughter would be in a caring and supportive learning environment.

“As a mother, I am happy to see the university’s commitment to supporting students like my daughter. This gives me confidence in allowing her to pursue her studies here,” she said.

Meanwhile, KKTSS USM Campus Director, Professor Ir. Dr. Mariatti Jaafar @ Mustapha, congratulated See An Na and all new students who have chosen USM as their higher education destination.

She said KKTSS is committed to providing an inclusive and conducive learning environment to support students’ academic and personal development, including students with special needs.

At the same time, she encouraged students to make full use of the opportunities available throughout their studies and embrace the USM HEBAT concept, which encompasses Holistic, Entrepreneurial, Balanced, Articulate and Thinking values in developing themselves into quality graduates.

See An Na is among approximately 900 new students expected to register at KKTSS for the 2026/2027 Academic Session, excluding international students and students from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (SEEE), which is based at USM’s Main Campus.
