USM’S JVR SELFHEAL TYRE UNDERGOES TWO-HOUR EXTREME RIDING TEST

BERANANG, 23 October 2026 - JVR Selfheal Tyre, a self-healing motorcycle tyre developed through research at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), underwent a continuous two-hour extreme riding test at Horizon Beranang Circuit, Selangor, to evaluate its performance under real riding conditions.

The research was led by Associate Professor Dr. Raa Khimi Shuib from the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, USM, and uses self-healing rubber technology developed for motorcycle tyre applications.

The test, conducted by the MotoWazi team led by Dr. Wazi Abdul Hamid, also involved national professional riders and Asian champions Md Zaqhwan Zaidi, Azroy Hakeem Anuar, Suhaidi Ali Rahma and Md Afiq Md Hamdan.

During the session, a punctured tyre was also used to assess the capability of the technology.

Based on feedback from the participating riders, the JVR Selfheal Tyre demonstrated good grip and stability, with performance described as comparable to that of leading international tyre brands.

The programme was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC), and industry collaborator Everthrough Rubber Product Sdn. Bhd.

The test marks a step towards evaluating the potential application of self-healing rubber technology in motorcycle tyre development, while creating opportunities for research and industry collaboration to advance local rubber-based innovations.
