UNIVERSITI SAINS MALAYSIA SIGNS MOU WITH ZIP INFRASTRUCTURE CO.LTD. FROM JAPAN
NIBONG TEBAL, 23 November 2022 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), via the School of Civil Engineering, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a company from Japan, Zip Infrastructure Co. Ltd. today.
The MoU will look into the responsibility to promote, develop and establish research, education, and collaboration activities, mainly in facilitating discussions on the requirements and processes to introduce a self-driven ropeway cable car as a public transportation system in Malaysia.
The Dean of the School, Professor Dr. Mohd Suffian Yusoff said in his speech that he is hoping for a smooth discussion between both parties, particularly on the betterment of infrastructure for the benefit of Malaysia in the future.
Meanwhile, a representative from Zip Infrastructure Co. Ltd., Mr. Mario Ian Carlos Ferido Rebonquin, in support of the statement made by the Dean, said that the company will provide further assistance and support for USM in achieving its goals through this five-year collaboration.
Additionally, the collaboration would also be in terms of conducting a collaborative field experiment of “Zippar” and determine the social impact on Malaysian society together with assisting in the evaluation and necessary modification of hardware and systems to “Zippar” for the Malaysian market.
Also, it is to be noted that both parties, through the MoU, will be required to publish research papers in academic journals and do presentations at local and international conferences from time to time.
